SI Motion

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

In today’s day and age, a magazine can no longer be just a magazine. As the powerhouse of all of Sports Illustrated’s designed content, my team of three was constantly thinking about how our print material could repurpose into digital friendly interactions. Magazines crank a magnificent amount of content. Working with my Creative Director, we worked hand in hand to decide:

What stories, or even just subsections and elements, would excel in an animated treatment, and what motion choices will best honor and elevate the work’s original purpose/essence?

Animated Logos

During my time at SI, I was regularly tasked with bringing the visual identity from individual magazine issues to life for our digital rollouts. These pieces appeared across our website and social platforms as video intros or bumpers.

Instagram Story Animations

When our editorial stories have elements screaming to be shared on social, I get to work from the base print pieces and reimagine how that material can best be repurposed in a digital format, like these two here:

Social Media Cover Teaser

At the end of every issue, I get the opportunity to create a teaser video for our Instagram account to promote the magazine’s release. Working from the original print design, I pull stylistic elements and reincorporate them into a succinct preview animation targeted at increasing the CTR of our cover stories. Below is a selection of some of my favorites.
