KULTURNATTEN 2020 IDENTITY
In what ways can Copenhagen’s culture be visually encompassed?
One very special night a year, Copenhagen city center comes alive for a celebration of everything that makes the city one of a kind. In order to promote the event, called Kulturnatten, the event team creates a new and unique campaign each year to remind citizens to mark their calendars for the extraordinary night. Almost all of the photography was pulled from recent photos of the event. The remaining were found on royalty free websites and are photos of the actual place or event in Copenhagen.
Exploration and Research:
What facet of culture best reflects the purpose and values of the event?
After having mulled over the concept of culture for a week, I kept coming back to its foundation in defining, and therefore uniting or separating, people. At its core, culture is equally the representation of people in a community while simultaneously guiding and defining the set standards that these same members aspire to fit within.
Digital Exploration
How can a photo collage encapsulate both the micro and macro nature of Copenhagen city’s culture?
It is from this perspective of culture that I began to explore how the medium of photo collage could effectively represent this narrative. Honing in on the concept of many pieces creating a whole, I began to play around with scale, color, proximity, and depth.
