COVEN WINERY

After college, I spent a little over a year and a half working in a wine shop. It was there I learned all about regional terroirs, what it means for a wine to “sit on lees”, and just exactly what “skin contact'“ in the winemaking process is referring to. It was also here I learned just how disproportionately the field of winemaking is skewed towards men. In a 2021 career study conducted by Zippa, an estimated 17.8% of all winemakers were women, and I can confidently say I felt that discrepancy in my time at the shop. Looking for a personal project to refresh my packaging chops, I thought:

How can a brand harness the gendered division of labor present in the wine world to further separate themselves in an oversaturated market?

Thinking from an American market and the deep history of witchcraft as a female gendered social division, Coven Winery is my personal answer to this question. Cheers!
